Florida ranks #1 in net migration

Net Migration (FLA #1)

Shrinks Inventory

Florida continues to attract a large number of people looking to relocate, maintaining its status as a favored destination among Americans in 2022. Recent data from StorageCafe revealed that the state experienced a net gain of 238,000 residents during that year, securing its position as the top relocation choice in the United States.

During the same period, Census data showed that 736,000 individuals migrated to Florida, while 497,000 left the state. Traditionally, retirees have been a significant demographic among new Florida residents. However, StorageCafe noted that the state’s appeal has broadened beyond retirees due to its robust economy and favorable tax environment.

Following closely behind Florida in terms of net migration were Texas and North Carolina, with Arizona and Georgia rounding out the top five states. This trend highlights the continued popularity of the Sun Belt region among relocating individuals. Conversely, California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, and Maryland experienced the highest levels of out-migration in 2022, according to StorageCafe’s analysis.
